Don't Try — Remembering Charles Bukowski in San Pedro

Remembering Charles Bukowski (1920-1994) on his birthday.

I learned more about the history
Than I did about the poetry
I know more about San Pedro
And those who were his neighbors
Nothing I've seen would
Confuse them as his peers
There's no evidence that they crossed paths
And less that they hopped sacks
But I would like to think
That he notched a few bedposts
In between their tedious lines

Now, there is one poem of separation
Between he and I — Don't Try

— Mark Butkus
