Coney Island Kisses

How will you spend the last weekend of summer?

Tonight calls for
walks along the shoreline.
For stardust and sunset.
For foam and footprint.

For Coney kisses,
wishes on waves,
and an ocean gospel
for the serenade.

Murder in Montana

Welcome to Montana! The setting for Anna Schilke's debut murder mystery.

Sex, drugs, alcohol, a well endowed killer who suffocates her victim with her breasts. And that's just the Prelude!

Murder in Montana is the debut novel by Anna Schilke. It takes some chutzpah to set a murder mystery in Billings, Montana, a city that sees less than a handful of murders per year. But on paper anything is possible. And Anna Schilke gives us more than one murder to think about. She gives us a serial killer. A female serial killer! In Montana! And that takes cojones!

Distant, that's how we must remain

Like the kerosene from the fire
Like the foreman from the black slave
Like the reality from the expectation
Like the dream from life's routine.

It Was Just Last Week

Rivers in chest
welling up tight.
Body shrinking in size.
When I came back: from home.

It’s my graduation pictures —
the ones where I’m smiling proud
wearing a scarf loud
the ones where I’m in a gown —
frames face down.
When I came back from home.
Your story changing
as to why the pictures were that way.

MTV VMA's Ferguson PSA and the Quotery of James Baldwin

Iconoclast poet James Baldwin was quoted in a PSA that aired during the 2014 broadcast of the MTV VMA's that addressed the death of Michael Brown on August 9, in Ferguson, Missouri. The quote, "Not everything that is faced can be changed; but nothing can be changed until it is faced." is superimposed against the backdrop of a Welcome to Ferguson sign while the chant, "Hands up, don't shoot!" echoes in the background of the 15 second public service announcement.

The PSA featuring the Baldwin quote was one of two that ran last night as part of MTV's Look Different campaign. The campaign is designed to, "erase the hidden racial, gender and anti-LGBT bias all around us."

In keeping with the theme of the campaign and the use of James Baldwin's words in the PSA we have assembled quotes from James Baldwin that address these issues of love and hate and have put them into verse. Quotery if you will.

About Our Times

We've had some times,
You and I;
Me being me, and you being you.

We moved along those many roads,
Going from place to place,
With lots of cats; hoping it would all work out.

Butterfly Flutters

The inner fire blazes
The tongue burns
The motmot´s tail
telling the story
