Christmas on the Streets

photo © Mark Butkus 2015
More than 2.5 million American children were homeless at some point last year.

Happy Holidays to all
and to all a good night
Especially those on the streets
Who fight for life

Just another day
for you and me
Don't be upset
if there's no smile to be seen

Bah humbug, you say
The season is bright
Not for those
on the streets this night

Let there be shelter from glaring eyes
a hug with a smile
...You might be surprised

Your pity is not wanted...
Been here too long
they are just like you
But something went wrong

From Hamburg to Bogota
Believe not what you're told
Forget your guns and your bombs
And really be bold

Create jobs for those
who cannot do much
Feelings of pride
Would be a blessing from on high

We all want the same thing
Whatever language you speak
Good food in our bellies,
something good to drink

Your time would be precious
Got time for a song?
Music is how we can all get along

Happy Holidays to all
And to all a good night
When will this world
Get its priorities right?

Food, a roof,
clear skies above,
May all of your days be filled
with peace and of love.

While Zanne Mack may have left her heart in San Francisco she now calls the Costalegre region of Mexico her home. A talented musician, Zanne sings her own compositions while evoking the ghosts of other musical souls when performing on stage in Puerto Vallarta as Honey Groover. Her poetry has appeared in all three Bar None Group anthologies.
