Rain in December

Rain in December
Is an event to remember
Grey clouds begin to gather up high
In an otherwise empty blue sky
Piper had nailed it, he called for showers
To Jill, his girlfriend, he bought her some flowers
This all took place on Saturday night
A party for Bonnie another birthday delight

Rain in December
Is an event to remember
“Let's walk,” one of us said
And drops of rain danced on my head
We walked and walked in Christmas Bar
Never going very far
Lalo with guitar in hand
Another set without a band

Rain in December
Is an event to remember
Melinda and Dawn were seated at a table
I had promised to Dawn a poem when I was able
Even have a title — Dawn at Sunset
It's not something I've actually written...not yet
Alaska Rick was making his move
These Seattle girls only came here to groove

Rain in December
Is an event to remember
Soaked to the bone I walked home alone
Not even a sniff this dog gets no bone
Woke up 'round 10 on Sunday morning
Rain fell anew without any warning
I stood and I watched the drops on the line
 — Getting real mellow doing just fine

Rain in December
Is an event to remember
I needed to go for a slow walkabout
Wanted to see who was in, see who was out
Richelle and Eric were out doing brunch
Chuck woke up earlier, to him it was lunch
Each of us went our own separate ways
For some a siesta for some purple haze

Rain in December
Is an event to remember
No rain since October, that;s more than a month
It threatened to twice but it didn't pour once
I'm directing the weather and have called for a huddle
It's the first time in Barra that I've seen a puddle
Rain in December is better than snow
But what would you expect in ol' Mexico?
